This is the beginning. You will start by submitting a short questionnaire about the specifics of the project and answer all the who, what, when, where, and why questions. Next we will set up a conversation in person, over the phone, or virtually to discuss your form submission and the project in more detail. This will reveal if you’re ready for the next step.

We will meet at the property and determine the scope and feasibility of the project. We will prioritize the use of space by evaluating the region of interest and identifying property lines. STICKS & STONES accesses and utilizes a variety of resources including GIS and topographical maps to gather the most accurate and useful information about the property.

You will receive a customized proposal prepared specifically for your project based on the prior consultation and survey. The proposal will serve as the roadmap for the execution of the project. This will outline the basic logistics and materials required and provide cost and timeline estimates. We will work together to customize the package to suit your agenda.

Scott will intently study the property both from maps and in person to create a design that flows appropriately, highlights property features, provides the desired challenge, considers safety, and is fun. This is one of the most critical steps in the disc golf course development process and is many times underperformed. Finally, this phase includes marking tees, fairways, and pin positions as well as drafting a course map.

This is when things begin to take shape and is the most labor intensive part of the project. Fairways are cut, tees are leveled, greens are prepped, features are built, and signs are made. This phase can have much flexibility and can be performed by a variety of contractors and volunteers. This can include the use of heavy equipment such as tractors and skid-steers as well as chainsaws and other hand tools. During this phase we will also test, tweak, and finalize the design in preparation for the installation phase.

This is the most exciting and rewarding part of the project as we see everything come together, and the course becomes a reality. This is when tees, targets, and other course elements are installed, and we can finally play the course. Depending on your agenda, at this time you will want to register your course with the PDGA, UDisc, and other course directories. This is important for attracting players to your course.

You will want to have a grand opening event, either with your local club or in the form of a tournament. This is a great way to celebrate and commemorate your project and develop awareness and exposure for your course. This is also a great way to start breaking in your brand new course as you can expect it to take 1-2 years for it to reach the ideal playing condition.
